rattle off a list
of rights
or wrongs
Never
show you
what you could have done
to avoid her
She knows
that you will know.
When you slip
off that roof,
breaking your leg...
When that icicle
falls on you,
impaling your eye...
When your car
stalls on the tracks
before an oncoming train.
You will see
Not your life
but the lives you could have
enhanced,
Instead of forborne.
Those you could have
saved,
Instead of vilified.
And in those last
fleeting
fading
moments,
You will know
unfailingly
unwittingly
That you had it coming.
